Today SCS gained LEED accreditation when Jonathan Dauchert, owner of Sustainable Construction Services LLC, became a LEED AP.

LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a program sponsored by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).  The USGBC is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable building practices.  The mission of the USGBC is "to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, health, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life."

One of the main focuses of the USGBC is the LEED Green Building Rating System.  This system is a way for people to recognize a project for its sustainability and green features.  The rating systems targets strategies to increase the sustainability of the building site, water savings, energy efficiencies, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.  The USGBC currently has rating systems for Homes, Neighborhood Development, Commercial Interiors (an example would be a store inside a mall), Core and Shell (an example would be the mall, not including the tenant build outs), New Construction (commercial buildings and multi-family residential, examples include an office buildings or an apartment buildings), Schools, Healthcare and Retail (elementary school, hospital), and Existing Buildings (operations and maintenance).

A LEED AP is someone who has demonstrated that he or she has a thorough understanding of green building and the LEED Green Building Rating System.  The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) is the organization in charge of testing a candidate's knowledge of this information.  By passing one of the GBCI's LEED Accreditation exams a candidate becomes a LEED AP.
