With the recently passed stimulus bill came additional tax incentives for homeowner who make their homes more energy efficient. According to 11alive.com "about $50 billion will go to energy programs, focused primarily on efficiency and renewable energy, including about $5 billion to winterize modest-income homes" and "300 million dollars has been earmarked to provide rebates to homeowners who upgrade to Energy Star certified appliances like washers, dryers, and heaters." Some other highlights of the newly signed stimulus package are:
Credits have been extended through 2010 Tax credits have been raised from 10% to 30% Many of the tax credits that carried a specific dollar amout have been changed to cover 30% of the cost The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1500 over the two year period Some systems such as solar panels and solar heat pumps are not included in the $1500 max and you can receive more for installing these systems The $200 max has been lifted for replacement windows
