One of our goals at SCS is to limit the environmental impact of every project we complete. It doesn't matter if you want your project to incorporate the greenest, most environmentally friendly materials or a materials that are not considered "green", SCS still strives to help the environment. The way we accomplish this is by, one, working with our subcontractors and suppliers to use material saving construction practices and to deliver the correct amount of material to the job site, and two, by controlling the amount of waste that we create during the construction process.
Let's take a look at an example of how SCS accomplishes this goal and how it can benefit you. We'll look at framing and unfinished a basement. We start by creating a detailed plan of what the finished product will look like. As long as we are not changing any of the existing walls we know that none of the walls we are adding are load bearing. This is important because we can use 24" spacing between the studs in non-load bearing walls but we have to use 12" spacing on load bearing walls. By being careful and diligent we'll order the proper amount of studs and frame all the walls 24" on center. By doing this we use half the studs other contractors that are not as careful might use. We also go over our material orders carefully so we are as accurate as possible. This helps to avoid ordering too little material and having to reorder more or ordering too much material which either goes to waste or has to be picked up by the supplier. This reduction in stud use, delivery trips, and extra material translates to less impact on the environment. It also means lower costs to us and a lower price for you. This is just one area that SCS controls the impact on the environment and the cost of your project. We are Sustainable Construction Services not because we offer the latest fad in green building but because we practice building principles that minimize our impact on the environment no matter what material we are using. |
